Time Keeps on Ticking

by Jack Howard

/

about

Low key electronica rules this week. Another heavy dose of mortality lyric, written sitting by the beach reflecting on life. And death. And flugel horns.

lyrics

Parked by the beach, winter sun streaming in. Dozed like an old man. Assailed by the usual monologue. Plans, doubt, ailments. Thought about mum and dad, long gone. Mum’s ashes somewhere out there in the waves and the undercurrents. Dad in a modest plot in the northern suburbs. I’ve lived three quarters of my life but still waiting for some kind of resolution. Or resolve.

Time keeps on tickin’, tickin’, tickin’.

Then I stood by the water. The beer-coloured bay. Striking a meaningful pose, like I had some great burden on my mind. A death, a dilemma, a terminal disease. But the sound of the waves lulled me nevertheless. Voices from the cafe. Buy, sell! Property prices and ungrateful children. Football and divorce. I’m a creative, I create!
