IF I WERE A BIRD

from THE STORY SO FAR... by Jack Howard

/

about

Originally released on Lost Horizon with The Nightbirds - Jo Schornikow on piano and b/v's, Kieran Jones on bass and Jeremy Hopkins on drums. Quite a journey this one with some great dynamic playing from everyone. In fact, there were a lot of journeys on this record. They were mostly piano-based songs that didn't really fit the old Long Lost Brothers' format and were less designed for easy live playing (here's 3 chords, let's play this one tonight!).

lyrics

If I were a bird
I'd be the smallest bird that I could be
As weightless as the air
I could change direction effortlessly
No baggage, no body full of bones

No bones full of sorrow and guilt
No bones full of joy and love
No love, no pain, no hate, no gain

I would just fly, fly away
So beautiful and cruel
So cruel and beautiful

Bright colours and endless movement
Blue and green and iridescent and tangerine
A life so pure, a life so free

I would just fly, fly away, etc.
